Pilar is doing a little better today and we were allowed to visit her in hospital and even take her out a little bit on the lawn for socializing and nibbling. It’s such a relief to see her nip grass and not seeing it all come out of her nose. I never will never see a snot-nosed horse again and not cringe.
She’s still in the intensive care unit. Tomorrow they’re going to try to do a gastroscopy to have a look at those esophagus injuries. Then we’ll know, at last, how bad it is, and what we can do about it in the long term.
But at least now she’s getting food down where it belongs.
No horse should be this thin. She was bad before but this is a shaggy skeleton. All I want to do is tuck her into my shirt and hug her better.
