Explaining the Diagonal
Pilar is making great progress over fall. She is not stepping over her own feet nearly as much as she used to, and riding her no longer feels like you have to carry her entire front part on the outer rein.
But the diagonal. Dude, the diagonal.
We probably all remember that first riding instructor yelling at us to change the reins on the diagonal when we change the direction of the circle. Well, Pilar needs a lot more of that. Every time we switch direction she keeps trying to put her weight on the wrong leg, making her flounder and fail to put her shoulder in.
She’s getting better at it. And my riding instructor is laughing her ass off because I keep explaining it to her like she was a first time on horseback five year old while we ride.
